Rescue Me!

My Aunt Connie sent me this quote from Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul. I just wanted to share it with you. It almost makes Freda's sleepless nights bearable. (Her name is Freda now instead of Macy because it turns out that she already knew that name.)
Saving just one dog won't change the world. . . .
but surely the world will change for that one dog.

Montana and Macy

Meet Macy!

This is Macy. She is the latest edition to our family. We went to the Pulaski County Humane Society this afternoon and adopted her. She is a 2 year-old, basset hound mix. Macy and Montana really got along in the dog park at the shelter. They played together, and the employee pointed out to us that they were forming that pack mentality when another dog on the other side of the fence tried to start trouble. Macy was very submisive to Montana which is exactly what we wanted see. The last thing that we wanted was 2 dominant dogs.
Since we have been home Montana has done his fair share of growling, but they are not fighting which is what we want right now. Those of you with dogs understand that there is a period of time after introducing a new dog into your home when the dogs have to adjust and determine dominance. Montana is showing her that he is the alpha dog in this house. This will take a couple of days but after that I am sure they will be the best of friends. The difference between the dog park and our home is that Montana is being territorial here because she is in his territory. The fact that they did form the pack mentality (as the staff member told us) in the dog park shows that they should be able to do that at home after this adjustment period.
Isn't she cute? She is very laid back and calm. She just went outside and scratched at the door wanting back in when she was done, so I think that she will be very easy to potty train if she is not 100% trained already. She seems to be going outside well thus far.
I don't know if any of you watch Good Morning Arkansas (Ch 7) on Saturdays, but Macy was the dog on it last Saurday. Her name was Freda, but we changed it because she did not even know her name was supposed to be Freda. If she had known her name we wouldn't have changed it, but she doesn't so we did;) The lady on the show with her said that she stayed with her at her house the night before, and she was the perfect house guest with no accidents or chewing.

supermodel

I am sure that this will be appreciated. LOL! I just realized that I never want her to be a supermode after this postl. This is a silly post for something that is not at all silly. This is Makayla's double ear infection face:(

I don't care what my teacher says

I'm gonna be a supermodel

And everyone is gonna dress like me

Wait and see

When I'm a supermodel

And my hair will shine like the sea

And everyone will wanna look just like me

Cause I'm young, and I'm hip and so beautiful

I'm gonna be a supermodel

'Cuz I'm young, and I'm hip and so beautiful

I'm gonna be a supermodel

I wish that I was like Tori Spelling

With a car like hers,

and a dad like hers {"My dad is great" said Makayla. "Didn't Aaron Spelling die last year?" asked Amanda}

And I will show them how,
how it was done

And that'd be fun; that'd be fun

And I'd write my school report

On "Why I love my jeans;
why I love my jeans"

And oh!

On my locker door

It's the coolest thing that you've ever seen

'Cuz I'm young, and I'm hip and so beautiful

I'm gonna be a supermodel

'Cuz I'm young, and I'm hip and so beautiful

I'm gonna be a supermodel

I didn't eat yesterday

And I'm not going to eat today

And I'm not going to eat tomorrow

'Cuz I'm going to be a supermodel'

Cuz I'm young, and I'm hip and so beautiful

I'm gonna be a supermodel

What do you think

I am contemplating switching the blog over to wordpress. I am not sure yet, but I am considering it because there are more options over there. Please check out our blog option over there. Here is the link. I am just worried that people won't be able to find the blog if I switch, and I know that lots of family and friends keep up with Makayla on this blog.

We're expecting...

...to adopt a friend for Montana. hahaha!
Montana is 4 years old. He has always had a lot of anxiety. When he was a puppy he tore up my apartment. I mean the apartment not just my stuff. He did that too, but I mean he ate holes in the walls, ripped up the carpet, and chewed the baseboards. My dad had to come to fix most of it before we (montana and I) moved to Fayetteville for grad school. His anxiety has changed over time, and now he licks and chews his legs when he is anxious. It does not seem to be improving. We have noticed that he has much less anxiety when he is with the other dogs at my parents' house. We have been letting him stay there much more than we should because he seems to enjoy the company of the other pups enough to stop the anxiety. If you ask them they will say that he does not get to stay there enough, but we want him to be home more:) He was their first grandchild after all.
Now here's the story. This weekend we went to the pulaski county humane society to let Montana test out some prospects. Apparently the humane society is way far away from here. It took like 45 minutes to get there, but of course we had to get lost in the process. All of this would happen when Makayla had an ear infection that we didn't know about yet. That would explain the non-stop screaming in the car. I just feel so bad about that. She had been running a fever for 2 days before that, but Makayla's fever had ceased by then. She seemed to be feeling fine until we got into the car. We all survived, and we are giving antibiotics to treat the infections. Back to the Story. We finally found the humane society, and it was closed because of having no power due to the storms! All of that trouble for nothing.
In summary...
We will go back this weekend to see if he can find a friend. They may not have a dog to meet our expectations, but I am sure they will because they have over 500 homeless pups living there. How sad! We always adopt our pets by the way. We have no problems with other people purchasing their pets. (My family has done it lots of times.) Nathan and I have just chosen to only get shelter pups. Here are our specs...
Adult dog between around 40# like Tana
Housebroken
Not wild and hyper (scared Makayla)

Makayla occasionally sits under her little arch ocean thingy. She tries to sit all the way up and gets stuck underneath.

Playing with tana

Montana has gained so much patience with makayla. He usually avoids her, but since we got the new dog her has shown so much more interest. I know that it looks like is is being rough, but he was gently trying to get his toy away from Makayla. I was suprised at how gentle he was with her.

brush 'em

Makayla loves to have her teeth brushed. Well, I think that she really just loves the infant tooth and gum cleaner.
